AppleAtcha is the manager/operator of the Community at the Core Packhouse and Cold Storage Facility.

AppleAtcha’s community partner, Community at the Core, 501(c)(3) non-profit, will commence the construction of a packing and storage facility in early 2024. AppleAtcha will have a long-term lease to manage the facility. This facility will facilitate year-round storage of apples (controlled atmospheric storage, “CAS”) enabling continuous sales. Moreover, it will possess the capability to process apples from other orchards, facilitating further growth beyond the company’s own property. This ensures the long-term sustainability and growth of the project, showcasing Kentucky’s as a major player in the apple industry.

Community at the Core, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, plays a vital role in the agricultural revitalization and economic growth of declining coal communities in Appalachia. They own a packhouse and cold storage facility which they lease to AppleAtcha. The organization focuses on creating educational programs and training opportunities to facilitate job placements, support community partners, and provide financial opportunities for agripreneurs in the region.

The primary goal of Community at the Core is to support the agricultural revitalization of coal communities in Appalachia. Through the implementation of AgriTech education and hands-on training, they aim to create thriving agriculture epicenters with a passionate workforce and a significant number of agripreneurs. By fortifying the economy through community development, the organization opens doors for job placements, financial growth, and overall progress.

One of the exciting aspects of Community at the Core’s initiatives is the financial support they offer. They provide grants of up to $50,000 to community members interested in starting their own family orchards. In addition to financial assistance, their program includes an orchard training manual and hands-on guidance to ensure the success of aspiring agripreneurs.

Community at the Core is committed to assisting veterans, individuals in addiction recovery, and families living below the poverty line. They have established strong partnerships with reputable organizations like Operation Unite, Patriot Guardens, and Project HOPE. Our collaboration with Community at the Core can serve as a powerful example of organizations uniting to create a lasting impact and pave the way for a brighter future in the Appalachian coal communities they serve.
